An Assessment of Barriers to Scientific Productivity among Faculty Members in Colleges and Departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences According to Gender and Academic Title

Abstract

The present study aimed to develop a scale to assess barriers to scientific productivity among faculty members in the Colleges and Departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Mosul, determine the level of these barriers, and identify statistically significant differences in their levels according to gender (male and female) and academic title (Professor, Assistant Professor, Lecturer, and Assistant Lecturer). The researcher employed a descriptive survey method, which was considered appropriate to the nature of the study. The total research sample comprised 156 faculty members. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher developed a scale for assessing barriers to scientific productivity using a sample of 110 male and female faculty members, while the application sample consisted of 46 participants. The scale’s face validity and reliability were established. The statistical analyses included the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, the Spearman–Brown formula, percentages, the independent-samples t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings confirmed the suitability of the scale for assessing barriers to scientific productivity among faculty members in the Colleges and Departments of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Mosul. The results also indicated that faculty members experienced a high level of barriers to scientific productivity.
